Between Labor Day on Monday and Hurricane Irma knocking out all activities Thursday through Saturday, it was a very short week of action in prep sports.
But the Nature Coast volleyball team made the most of the two-day window, earning two huge Class 6A, District 7 victories.
On Tuesday, the Lady Sharks (4-1 overall, 4-1 6A-7) defeated county-rival Weeki Wachee, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 25-19. Sophomore Madison Clark led the way with 11 kills, Brooke Riddle had 20 assists and Jennifer Porcelli added 39 digs. Brooke Sereda tallied 16 kills, Amberlyn Werkmeister had 36 assists and Mariann Flaherty totaled 24 digs for the Lady Hornets (6-6 overall, 3-1 6A-7).
Nature Coast was back on the court Wednesday at Crystal River and pulled out an 18-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-12 win.
Springstead (5-1) lost at Lecanto on Tuesday, 26-24, 27-25, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11. That same night, Hernando swept Central, 25-23, 25-8, 25-18. Hailey Crawford posted 11 kills for the Lady Leopards (2-4 overall, 2-1 6A-7).
The remainder of the week was full of postponements and cancelations, including the entire Week 3 football slate, and that figures to continue for any events scheduled for Monday.
