There is a seminary (a school to teach people to become priests) in Hernando County. The Most Holy Trinity Seminary is located on Spring Lake Highway near the Pasco border.
The Most Holy Trinity Seminary was founded in 1995. The seminary started out sharing the building of the Mary Help of Christians Academy, a Catholic K-12 school located in Warren, Michigan. The seminary set out to find a location of their own on which to build and they purchased 50 acres of land in Spring Lake. Construction began in April 2005 and three years later the seminary opened in their Spring Lake location.
The impetus for the creation of the seminary was Vatican II, which led to significant changes to the Catholic Church. Vatican II was an attempt to modernize the Catholic Church. One of the most noticeable changes of Vatican II was that many masses were performed in the local language rather than the original Latin.
Most Holy Trinity Seminary’s goal is to to train Roman Catholic priests according to pre-Vatican II standards. You can find out more about them on their web site at http://mostholytrinityseminary.org.
They also provide mass on weekdays at 7:00 am, Saturday at 9:00 am and Sunday at 9:00 am and 10:30 am. They are located at 1000 Spring Lake Highway.
