“Spring Business Showcase” is March 20

Various County Board position vacancies

The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications from individuals wishing to serve on the following County Boards. These positions are currently vacant.
Board of Construction and Regulation — One Roofing Contractor positio and One Architect/Engineer
Fine Arts Council — Two positions
Citizens Advisory Task Force — Five positions
Applications are available in the County Administrator’s Office, 20 North Main Street, Room 263, Brooksville, Florida, 34601, by calling 352-754-4002, or by visiting our website at www.HernandoCounty.us/bocc/committees.htm. Applications must be returned to the County Administrator’s Office no later than 5 p.m., on Friday March 10, 2017.

All applicants must be residents and registered voters in Hernando County. Additionally, these are voluntary, non-paid positions and may be designated as an alternate member position.

Chamber Co-Starters Series begins March 29

Introducing a ten-week program to give you the tools you need to ensure success. The workshop will begin 6:00-9:00pm Wednesday, March 29 and continue every Wednesday through June 7th.
This workshop will take place at the Chamber office located at 15588 Aviation Loop Drive, Brooksville. Facilitated by Kurt Glacy, President of LEVR Consulting, and Jennifeer Koenen, CEO of EBS.

Guardian ad Litem Volunteers sought

The Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program is currently seeking volunteers to be advocates and a voice for abused, neglected or abandoned children whose cases are in the court system. A GAL is a trained volunteer appointed by the court to advocate on behalf of a child. Eligible volunteers must be 21 years of age and older (adults between 19 and 21 years are also eligible to work alongside a certified volunteer GAL), successfully complete the pre-service training program and be cleared of any serious criminal history via a Level II criminal background check. A GAL must complete 30 hours of pre-service training.
On average, volunteers should expect to spend 5-10 hours a month on a case, and most cases last 10 months. The volunteer works as part of a team including a volunteer supervisor and program attorney.
The next GAL volunteer training will be held February 24 and 25 in Hernando County. All participants must complete application process prior to training. Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Gardening for the Birds, Bees & Butterflies” on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the West Hernando Library – 6335 Blackbird Ave, Brooksville at 10:30am.

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Spring Flowers for Central Florida” on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr. at 10:30am.

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Wild Edibles” on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, at 10:00am. The class will be presented by Native Plant Society Member Rita Grant. Back by popular demand! Join Rita Grant as she teaches us about edible plants that grow in the wild. Free class. Pasco County hosts Reverse Trade Show

The Pasco County Purchasing Department is inviting all local vendors interested in doing business with Pasco County Government agencies to attend the first Pasco County Reverse Trade Show.
This unique event will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Recreation Complex, located at 3032 Collier Parkway, Land O’ Lakes, Florida.
Small businesses, minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and disadvantaged businesses will find this event helpful in making contact with these agencies and networking with other companies.

Hernando Youth Orchestra seeking donations of musical instruments

PHSC to host dual enrollment orientation

Pasco-Hernando State College will host an orientation and information session for current and potential dual enrollment students and their parents on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court in B building
PHSC’S dual enrollment program allows eligible high school students to enroll in college credit or specific technical credit courses, taught by PHSC, which simultaneously apply toward high school graduation and college programs.
All current and interested dual enrollment participants and their parents should plan to attend this important meeting that will relay details about the dual enrollment process and the responsibilities of dually enrolled students. PHSC seeks employers to participate in job fair

Pasco-Hernando State College’s career and testing services is seeking employers interested in participating in Opportunity 2017 Hernando County Job and Internship Fair scheduled on April 6, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the PHSC North Campus in Brooksville, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Local employers interested in advertising open positions and future opportunities will meet and greet job seekers from the community and PHSC students seeking employment and internships. Employers also will have the option to perform on-site interviews with potential job seekers.
