Hernando Christian staff member arrested for sexual battery

On April 29th 2017, the Brooksville Police department received a complaint that alleged that multiple sex offenses were committed at a house in Southern Hill Plantation. An investigation led to the arrest of Bruce P. McAllister a staff member of Hernando Christian Academy on May 11th. The police report stated "that the husband of a principal at Hernando Christian Academy used a school sponsored foreign exchange program to lure victims to his home.

Homicide on Twigg St in Brooksville

At 8:13pm Friday evening 3/3/17, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting on Twigg Street in Brooksville, just south of Dr. M L King Jr Boulevard.

The shooting resulted in the death of Marcus Lamar Easterling, 32.

Detectives are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or who has information that would be helpful to the case, to please contact Detective Cole Brinson or Detective Chris Vascellaro at 352-754-6830.

Teamwork leads to unusual drug bust

200lbs of Marijuana seized from airplane

Some fast acting and lots of cooperation between local and federal agents led to the seizure of 197 pounds of marijuana in Brooksville late Monday night. Around 10:30 pm, The Department of Homeland Security Investigations Department alerted our Hernando County Sheriff’s Office of a suspicious aircraft entering the airspace over our county. By 10:45 pm, a sheriff’s deputy searching Brooksville-Tampa Bay regional airport spotted the 1979 Beech Baron Twin engine plane pulling into a hangar and the door shutting. Backup arrived shortly thereafter. Homeland Security showed up as well.

Hernando County man terrorizes shoppers with sword play

Feb. 23, 2017 0130 hours - Shannon Schenck, 44, swung two swords, terrorizing shoppers at the Brooksville Walmart parking lot located at 7305 Broad Street. Appearing to be under the influence or drugs and or alcohol, Schenck threatened shoppers getting out of their vehicles. The store manager called the Brooksville Police Department who responded to the scene.
