The Mud Run has become a popular type of 5K athletic event and the abandoned mine properties of Hernando County are a perfect fit for the type of obstacles these mud runs require. This is not something that just appeals to a select few. Thousands of people flock to Hernando County to participate in the sport and many come to watch.

Patricia's Windows Come to Life

Hernando County is on the map for its live mermaid shows at Weeki Wachee where underwater beauties take the stage. Another one-of-a-kind show featuring lovely ladies is creating a bit of a buzz among area locals. Now live, beautiful, dancing mannequins add to the unique culture that is Hernando County. In downtown Brooksville, Patricia’s Boutique has been hosting “Patricia’s Windows Come To Life” during special occasions throughout the year. During these events, fiberglass mannequins are replaced with the most gorgeous, dancing models in town.

The Arc Nature Coast will host their Ninth Annual Spring Lake 5-K Run and 2 mile fun run/walk on Saturday, May 23rd at The Arc Campus located at 5283 Neff Lake Road in Brooksville.
The Spring Lake, Florida 5-K is located in scenic western Hernando County. But don't let the majestic trees and peaceful setting fool you-these are some of the toughest hills in Florida! The course takes the runner over a variety of terrains; from asphalt to a nature trail through the woods, a horse barn and up and down some challenging hills!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade will take place on January 19th, 2015 to celebrate his birth (January 15, 1929), honor his accomplishments and the principles he stood for. The Parade begins at 10:00 am at the Hernando High School Bus Compound on Oakwoood heading west, it will then take Howell Ave South, to Ft. Dade Avenue East, and finally Bell Avenue back to Hernando High.

Get your new year off to a healthy start! Every Saturday at 11:30am trainers at YMCA of Spring Hill, 1300 Mariner Blvd will help you prepare for the Brooksville 5K run. The Couch to 5K program is funded by the Florida Department of Health. They encourage you to speak with your physician before participating. Flying Fortress

(Brooksville, FL) Get up-close and personal with the airplane known as the Flying Fortress, considered one of the greatest military airplanes ever built. On Tuesday, January 20 and Wednesday, January 21, 2015, visit the Brooksville–Tampa Bay Regional Airport (BKV) to see history come alive with the sights and sounds of yesteryear. Participants will have the opportunity to see this historic WWII bomber, take a tour and a “mission’ flight. The event will be hosted by Brooksville’s Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) Chapter 1298.

Hernando Courthouse Christmas Tree Lighting

The Christmas tree lighting in front of the Hernando Courthouse in Historic downtown Brooksville was an even bigger event than last year. It was hosted by Randi Olsen and Jason Yungmann who performed along with the Live Oak Theatre Company, Suncoast Elementary School, and the Weeki Wachee High School Chorus. The street was closed in front of the courthouse, where vendors were selling food, jewelery, and crafts. Patricia's Dress Shop was open and young ladies were putting on a show in the window display which drew quite a crowd.
