Legendary Sirens are Mermaids Forever

Recently a unique group of mermaids (pictured above from left to right): Lydia Dodson 69’-72’, Bev Sutton 69’-72’, Lynn Columbo 73’-86’, Susie Pennoyer 71’-73’, Marianne Bennett 69’-75’, Vicki Smith 57’-61’, Rita King 63’-68’ (not pictured) showed their grace and skill at the Weeki Wachee Mermaids’ Legendary Sirens performance. How did these ladies get the chance to be a part of Weeki Wachee’s greatest show? A common thread of the mermaids' various stories is that they each had wanted to be a mermaid since girlhood.

Amateur radio is a worldwide group of people who communicate with each other over a wide frequency spectrum using many different types of wireless transmitting modes. Some people may think amateur radio is a person talking through a mic at a radio station but actually it’s more than that, way more than that. City of Brooksville Provides Some Support to HC Fairgrounds July 4th Celebration


Richard Klimas with Hernando County Fair Association spoke to the Brooksville City Council about the upcoming July 4th celebration at the Hernando County Fairgrounds.
He stated that they reached out to the community and the community has helped out considerably with the fireworks display. So far they have acquired $11,000 out of the $15,000 they are aiming towards.

Brooksville, Florida (June 26, 2015) – The Live Oak Theatre Company announces that it will offer a program in Basic Acting and an Introduction to Live Oak Theatre. The program will consist of four one and a half- hour classes, held from 6:30 – 8:00 on Tuesdays, July 14, 21, 28, and August 4. The program will be held at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt. Fair Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601.

For the Dog Lovers: UpDog Challenge Event


Kat and Jack Fahle have been involved in disc challenge for over eleven years. However they felt the need to expand this sport so that it provides something for everyone. “We wanted to make an organization that was more accessible to pet people, to the person that plays disc in the backyard.” Kat Fahle said. Along with three of their friends; Andre and Jason Riglers, and Babz they put a new approach in disc dog challenges and formed the UpDog Challenge.

Remembering 22 Rucking Event

A worthy cause and challenging event took to the streets of Spring Hill on Saturday, May 2nd. Rucksack toting runners took off from their starting line on Mariner Boulevard on a 22 mile urban course for the first “Remembering 22 Rucking Event”. At each mile mark, 22 reps of 22 different exercises were completed by each of the athletes. The event captured the curiosity of onlookers and prompted questions, which was exactly the objective of the run.

41st Annual Student Recognition Banquet

Brilliance lives among us! The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce honored 49 graduating students at their 41st Student Recognition Banquet on Thursday evening, April 23rd. In partnership with the local Kiwanis Clubs and through the support of our great community the event brought much honor to very deserving students. This year 18 scholarships totaling $11,000 were presented during the banquet that was held at Spring Hill’s Palace Grand.

A Slice of Americana at the Hernando County Fair


BROOKSVILLE- Just beyond the city signs a tiny patch of brightly colored, blinking bulbs reaching skyward can only mean it’s time for the annual county fair. It’s a week long, springtime gathering of Hernando County locals and it’s been taking place in Brooksville for the past 64 years. The county fair is as american as apple pie and is reminiscent of days past. The local event unfolds just south of town at the Hernando County Fairgrounds and showcases agriculture, local crafts, shows, and food galore.
