41st Annual Student Recognition Banquet

Brilliance lives among us! The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce honored 49 graduating students at their 41st Student Recognition Banquet on Thursday evening, April 23rd. In partnership with the local Kiwanis Clubs and through the support of our great community the event brought much honor to very deserving students. This year 18 scholarships totaling $11,000 were presented during the banquet that was held at Spring Hill’s Palace Grand.

A Slice of Americana at the Hernando County Fair


BROOKSVILLE- Just beyond the city signs a tiny patch of brightly colored, blinking bulbs reaching skyward can only mean it’s time for the annual county fair. It’s a week long, springtime gathering of Hernando County locals and it’s been taking place in Brooksville for the past 64 years. The county fair is as american as apple pie and is reminiscent of days past. The local event unfolds just south of town at the Hernando County Fairgrounds and showcases agriculture, local crafts, shows, and food galore.

A Fun Day at the Fourth Annual Florida Blueberry Festival

Brooksville’s sleepy town square was wide awake and buzzing for the fourth Annual Florida Blueberry Festival this past weekend. Quiet, business as usual was traded for busy, bustling streets packed with vendors, entertainment, and crowds. This year's event yielded quite a crop in attendance with thousands of festival goers from all over Florida and beyond. Though official numbers of attendees has not been confirmed, there is a buzz that this year's festivities set a notable record.

30th Anniversary of American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Staff, Relay for Life

The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost, and takes action to finish the fight once and for all. Relay For Life events are community events where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and raises funds for the American Cancer Society in the months leading up to the event.

Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show

Friday April 10th kicks off the 64th Annual Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show. A fun and eclectic variety of entertainment is slated for the 9-day event.

On April 11th the Fair will feature a Truck and Tractor Pull at 6:00pm. On the 18th at 7:00pm the Demolition Derby returns- sure to pack the stands and deliver action and excitement as it did last year.

Florida Blueberry Festival... ♪ in Brooksville ♪

Preparations are being made for the 4th Annual Florida Blueberry Festival for this weekend April 11th and 12th in Downtown Brooksville. The festival is put on by the Florida Blueberry Festival Inc. and is supported by the County and the City of Brooksville. It also depends on the labor of community volunteers.

Brooksville Cycling Classic

Spokes and pedals packed the downtown streets of Brooksville on Saturday for the 5th annual Brooksville Cycling Classic. Hundreds of cyclists and spectators alike gathered in the streets to be a part of this one-of-a-kind event that adds to the culture of the area. The event is hosted by “Get Healthy Vitamins and Natural Foods” and was founded by owner Laura Dewitt back in 2010.

Patricia's Windows Come to Life

Hernando County is on the map for its live mermaid shows at Weeki Wachee where underwater beauties take the stage. Another one-of-a-kind show featuring lovely ladies is creating a bit of a buzz among area locals. Now live, beautiful, dancing mannequins add to the unique culture that is Hernando County. In downtown Brooksville, Patricia’s Boutique has been hosting “Patricia’s Windows Come To Life” during special occasions throughout the year. During these events, fiberglass mannequins are replaced with the most gorgeous, dancing models in town.
