The early bird catches the worm, right? Or in this case, the early bird gets fit! Elaine Monagas, owner of New U Weight Loss Center has started an early morning fitness group for anyone who wants to get healthy. The group meets at 5 am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at her shop located in – plaza on Northcliffe Blvd and they head out on a journey to get fit together. I’ll admit, I’m not a morning person. Elaine had been inviting me to join the group for a few weeks and I kept putting it off because I couldn’t bring myself to get up and active that early. Eventually, my curiosity got the best of me and I tried it.
Monagas says her goal is to turn this into a “Faith and Fitness” group. She wants to read a bit of scripture and pray before each workout so that people have a positive way to start their day. Her gym mainly caters to people who are at a lower level of fitness, but the morning workout crew is for any fitness level. There are some people in the group who walk, some who jog, and some who run. When it’s too cold or rainy to exercise outdoors, Monagas makes sure that her patrons still get their work out on indoors.
Even though 5 am is a bit early for me, I really enjoyed walking and jogging with the group. Even though I was still groggy when I got there, I was wide awake by the time I left- with no coffee or energy drinks!
