Review: Over the River and Through the Woods

Family, Faith, and Food are three important themes in Over the River and Through the Woods, a play by Joe DiPietro, and the latest show at Stagewest Community Playhouse. It’s a play about life and the struggle for independence and autonomy versus love of family and tradition. It’s about human nature, our idiosyncrasies, and the choices we make.

Artful Possibilities Makes Brooksville Home

A source of creativity and art for over 4 years, Artful Possibilities was originally located in Spring Hill, but recently made the move to 414 E. Liberty St., in Brooksville. They had their grand opening on February 4th at the new location.

Michelle Margotta, the owner of Artful Possibilities, grew up in a ceramic business and has been painting ever since she was little. Her interest in painting grew, and she actually published 6 books on decorative painting in the ‘90s.

If you like spoofs of Reality television, broad farce and audience participation theatre, then The “Nearly” Real Housewives of Hernando County is just the “ticket.”

Written by local author and playwright Jerry Cowling and directed by Vince Vanni, the show was a hit to the audience that attended the production Saturday evening, February 4. If you missed the play you’ll have a chance to view an encore presentation February 11.

State park and local children will celebrate popular hippo’s Birthday

HOMOSASSA—The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will celebrate Lu, the hippopotamus’ 57th birthday with two special birthday parties on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 10:00 am and at 12:30 pm. Lu is the oldest living hippo in captivity in North and South America.

The ethereal and intricate work of seasoned art quilter Susan Leslie Lumsden will be showcased at The Uptown Gallery’s January Exhibition entitled “In the Mind’s Eye.” The exhibition opened January 13th and runs through the end of February. Among the many local artists whose work will be shown, at least a dozen of Lumsden’s large-scale art quilts will be on display.
