A tip from Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. led the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Vice and Narcotics unit to a so-called “grow house” where more than 100 marijuana plants were being cultivated.

HCSO Deputy Public Information Officer (PIO) Michael Terry said that the electric power provider contacted HCSO after discovering that theft of power estimated at $74,000 had been illegally diverted to 33359 Berryhill Rd. in eastern Hernando County over a two-year period.

Acting on a warrant, detectives searched the location and recovered 103 marijuana plants with a total weight of more than 192 pounds.

Investigators are following up on leads, but no one has been arrested in connection with the case, Terry said.
