On Friday Cinco De Mayo a rare occurrence took place during the game that pitted the San Francisco Giants against the Cincinnati Reds. Two players from the same small high school played against each other in a Major League Baseball game. The pitcher for the Reds was Bronson Arroyo and the third baseman for the San Francisco Giant was Christian Arroyo. Both of these players graduated from Hernando High School and even though they share the same last name and hometown, they are unrelated.

Photos tell where you have been

Apple and Google phones now add location metadata by default to every photo taken with them. Social media apps then use this data when you share these photos.

Not only are you telling anyone who sees the photo and knows how to view metadata where you took the photo, but now several companies know where you have been if you give them access to your photos. If you share your photos on Facebook, Facebook can determine where you went on vacation, where you hang out with your friends, and where you take your kids to eat.

You Can Never Be Safe Enough

Of course safety is important for a community, but it is also something that government entities that are in the business of public safety can never spend enough on. Additionally, laws are initially passed in the name of safety and then over time become more and more restrictive, infringing on our rights. Oftentimes the laws that are passed or the rules enacted to protect, require us to do things that don’t even make sense.

There is no difference between the Internet and the outside world

Since 1999 Amazon has used a patent on “one click buying” of products to sue other retailers. It expires in 2017, so you may be able to buy things more quickly online. The idea behind this patent is you allow a customer to buy a product as quickly as possible by using only a single click.

The only thing that is really unique about this patent is that it is on the Internet. Retailers have been trying to remove obstacles from customers’ purchases as long as there has been retail.
Just because something is on the Internet, it does not change the way the world works.

Bases loaded in Hernando

Mike Walker coaches a group of players at the MLB Legends Baseball Clinic on April 1, 2017.

Hernando County is an amazing place for children to learn the game of baseball or softball. We have many experienced coaches, some who have even played in the Majors.

Hernando Youth Leagues runs Dixie baseball leagues in Brooksville, Ridge Manor, and Spring Hill. The Brooksville Dixie Baseball and softball leagues have a long tradition of success. The Spring Hill league has had lots of recent success winning several World Series titles in different age groups.
