Hernando County Cold Case Much Warmer, with Assistance from Television Show

Merle Mackey, has been arrested by authorities for the murder of his wife Evelyn nearly 35 years ago. He is currently being held without bond in Levy County while he awaits trial. Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the TNT television show, Cold Justice, who ultimately agreed to help out in February 2015. On May 1st, Episode 12 “A Trip to Nowhere” was aired, based on the missing persons case of Evelyn Mackey.

No Credible Evidence Found in School Shooting Threat Late Tuesday


At 9:25 p.m. last night, (10/27/15), 911 dispatchers began receiving numerous calls reporting a supposed threat made on social media of a possible school shooting that was to occur today.

The report from the police department is as follows,

"Deputies immediately began investigating the origin of the threat.
There was a similar threat made by a student on Monday at Weeki Wachee High School.

The incident was investigated and it was determined that the student made the comment out of anger with no intention or ability to carry out the threat.

On October 20, 2015 Hernando County deputies arrested a Fifth Grade teacher from Explorer K-8 School in Spring Hill. The teacher, Catherine Ferraro admitted to stealing medications from the purses of two teachers after they contacted School Resource Deputy Stacy Rodriguez about the situation. Ferraro had been stealing items from the teachers since the beginning of the year according to the report.

A Hernando County Jane Doe, murdered in 1972 may have a chance to tell her story. Approximately 3 days after her death, a teenage boy discovered her body. Her remains had already started to decompose, making her unrecognizable. She was buried by the county following an autopsy. Then in June 2015, her body was exhumed for DNA testing, anthropological assessments, and facial reconstruction. Three dimensional printing was used to create a replica of her skull which was then used for facial reconstruction, a relatively new process forged by forensic artist Joe Mullins.

On September 15, 2015 at approximately 9:53 p.m., Hernando County deputies responded to 12110 Eldorado Avenue in Brooksville to assist Probation and Parole officers. Probation and Parole officers were on scene at this location to serve multiple felony warrants on the resident, Nickcole Dykema.

GOEBEL, MARY STELLA was arrested on 06/10/2015 16:14 for RETAIL THEFT (SHOPLIFTING) at 1485 COMMERCIAL WAY, SPRING HILL, FL, 34606. She replaced tags of 8 regularly priced clothing items with tags of 8 clearance clearance clothing items. She was placed under arrest for retail theft and transported to the Hernando County Jail. Gobel was given a court date of 07012015, at 0930 hours and a bond of $500.

PRYOR, AMY b. 1974 was arrested on 06/03/2015 18:44 for DISORDERLY INTOXICATION. Ms. Pryor, intoxicated showed up at a residence in Weeki Wachee attempting to forcibly enter and threatened the lives of those inside. The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Jail where she was issued a court date of 07/01/2015 and is being held in lieu of a $500 bond.

PARKINSON, JASMYN LYN born 1986 was arrested on 05/14/2015 12:39 for Grand Theft. Parkinson stole 55 lottery tickets from Speedway, her place of employment. The tickets were worth $813.

EATON, JOEL ALLEN born 1989 was arrested on 05/14/2015 01:25 for driving while license was suspended with knowledge, fleeing to elude, possession of an open container of alcohol, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

7/17/1996 were both arrested for domestic battery at 01:48 on 5/1/2015. The pair had been living with eachother for a year and a half. An altercation arose due to Mr. Jamison text messaging another. Both are being held at the county jail.
