Steinhatchee: The old way of life in Florida

A Honeymoon Cottage in Steinhatchee Landing Resort.

If you think Florida is just all about strip malls, Disney and Orlando attractions, think again.

Located in north central Florida, just south of Perry, Steinhatchee depicts the old way of life in Florida. Steinhatchee (pronounced “Steen-hatchee”) is in the Big Bend, midway between Apalachicola and old Suwannee River. Its name “Steinhatchee.” was derived from the Native American “esteen hatchee” meaning river (hatchee) of man (esteen).

April fishin' report

Captain Duane Baker

April is, in my opinion, the best month to fish inshore in the flats and back country. Spring tides are flushing bait from the banks and making navigation easier. The strong winds of March are calming down and the temperature is comfortable.

The main target species are redfish, trout, and snook although many others may be caught like flounder, sheepshead, mangrove snapper, and Spanish macs.

Eclipse Exhibit Open at PHSC Gallery

Many of us have always been fascinated by the wonders of the world around us. Among the many things in our world that have captured the interest and inspired the imagination of artists across time and space, are the stars. With new scientific discoveries being made all the time, one artist has used these discoveries to shape her representations of the world around us.
