Yankee Bean: where homemade soups reign supreme

Don’t blink or you might miss this gem of a restaurant tucked just off Alt. 19 in Tarpon Springs. Opened in October 2006, it’s a wonderful little place owned by wonderful people. Just 30 minutes drive from Hernando County, it’s well worth a visit.

The owners, Jeanne and Manuel Tsongranis, were raised in traditional Greek and Italian homes, and rely on their family tradition of fresh ingredients and good taste. They make trips to the market everyday and handpick only the freshest seasonal ingredients to make their menu items the tastiest you’ll come across in Florida.

Good food: Ringing in the New Year

new years

For most of us, the traditional way to welcome in the New Year is a toast of Champagne and a kiss for a loved one.

But for millions of revelers around the world, New Year’s Eve is a time to eat symbolic treats in the hopes of bringing luck, good health and prosperity in future times. The foods vary from culture to culture but all are said to bring good fortune and help let go of the old year.

At Eli’s Cafe, you’re family

At Eli’s Cafe, you’re family

Eli’s cafe is located on US19 in the Rural King plaza. There is a counter in the front and you have to walk down a short hall to get to the dining room. There is a medium sized dining room and they can accommodate decent sized parties.

I don’t think I’ve ever been at a restaurant where the owner was so interactive with customers. It’s like walking into Eli’s living room. Eli greets his customers with a hug or introduces himself with a handshake. Eli and the staff joke with the customers and they tell awesome stories.

Greenhouse Bistro

We believe that good health and well-being depend on eating real food. When you dine at the Bistro, you can rest assured that you’re eating “clean” with no toxic ingredients like corn syrup, trans-fats, additives, antibiotics, preservatives, artificial ingredients, and chemicals.

Steam 33 — Café Bistro

Anew Mediterranean cafe Steam 33 has opened across from the courthouse in downtown Brooksville. It is located in the Jennings building which has been home to a number of restaurants in the recent past.

Our waiter gave us a business card of the owner, since it was our first time visiting the restaurant. It said owner Rodrigo Villa-Lobos. We asked where Rodrigo was and he stopped by our table to talk. It is nice to visit small businesses where the proprietor is on premises and can correct any issues.
