On June 14, 2018, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of John Mitten to the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners. Commissioner Mitten will serve during the suspension of Commissioner Nicholas Nicholson beginning immediately.
Mr. Mitten was appointed to the seat held by Commissioner Nicholson for the term ending November 16, 2020. Mr. Mitten previously served on the commission in 2017 from March through June in place of Jeff Holcomb, who was deployed as a Naval reservist.
John Mitten is the owner of the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Brooksville on Cortez Blvd. In 2015, he served as co-chair of the Political Action Committee “Save Our Students Hernando!” which campaigned in favor of the school district’s half cent sales tax referendum which appeared on a special election ballot in Sept. 2015.
Mr. Mitten is very active locally. He was appointed in January 2018 to the PHSC District Board of Trustees. He is a board member and past chair (2012-2013) of The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce and member of the board and past chair of United Way of Hernando County.
Mr. Mitten’s recent experience on the commission should allow him to quickly come up to speed again. He has experience with last year’s budget and has worked with the county staff.
