What a night!! The VFW Post 10209 Auxiliary held a Pig Roast Luau on June 9th. The fundraiser was sold out weeks before the event. Guests arrived in their best island attire and were greeted with leis as they entered the luau. There was an authentic pig roast which began at 6:00am which was served up with all the fixins generously donated by local businesses.
Following dinner, Steve and Amy Katz spoke on behalf of the Honor Flight of West Central Florida. They have volunteered with the organization for the past six years. They provided much information about the mission of Honor Flights and what it provides for the veterans it services, for example, flying the veterans free of charge to Washington DC to visit and reflect the memorials that are dedicated in their honor, the role of being a Guardian, Mail Call, and attending Welcome Home Celebrations.
The evening proceeded with special guest “Elvis”, Kenny Grube, who kept the dance floor hopping. He even made time to pose for pictures with anyone who wished to grab a photo with Elvis. Throughout the night, excitement raised as door prizes and raffles were called.
The evening was a success thanks to the many sponsors, people working in front and behind the scenes, and Auxiliary members who dedicated so much time to make the night enjoyable for all who attended. The fundraiser was held to support our veterans both past and present. The proceeds with go toward the Honor Flight and the !-185th Assault Helicopter Battalion Family Readiness Group.
