(Spring Hill, FL) at 7:15 a.m. July 5, 2018 Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to reports of a person trapped under a piece of construction equipment. The call was located at a
home under construction in the area of 13882 Blythewood Drive.
Once crews arrived they found the forklift operator, a 51-year-old male, trapped beneath the forklift. The incident had occurred on a new home construction site in an area of loose sandy
soil. The forklift operator was moving a a large section of concrete, when the ground gave way and fell onto its side. Due to the unsteady ground and size of the forklift, HCFR’s Technical
Rescue Team was called to the scene for the rescue.
After approximately one hour, the trapped man was pulled from the incident.
The patient was stabilized by HCFR paramedics and then transported, as a trauma alert patient, to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center’s trauma unit via BayFlight.
HCFR initially responded with 2 fire engines, 2 rescues and 1 battalion chiefs for a total of 13 personnel.
