The Hernando Youth League Girls Softball Ponytails (under 13) are headed to the World Series representing Florida. The 2018 Dixie Softball World Series is being held in Alexandria, Louisiana from July 27 through August 1, 2018.
In the State Finals they defeated the home team Lake Placid. They played Lake Placid twice at State winning both times. In fact they are undefeated so far at both the district and state tournaments.
It took lots of hardwork and dedication to reach this point on the part of the players and their parents, and coaches. The coaches are Geoff Cummings, Christie Williams, Anthony Laviano, Mike McClelland and Stacie Laviano. The players are McKinlea Heath, Taylor Laviano, Katie Williams, Carollann McClelland, Bree Henagan, Annabel Chinetti, Carmen
Edwards, Arianna Gilham, Mia Lopez, Arreon Roberts, McKenna McGrantham & Gabby Passante.
This is the first time in over 20 years the HYL ponytails division advanced to the State softball tournament and the first time in over 10 years any HYL age division has advanced to the softball World Series. Winning these tournaments has allowed Hernando County to represent the State of Florida at the World Series.
The team is looking to raise money for the trip to Louisiana and have set up a gofundme page as well as fundraisers at Rookie’s and a bake sale at the Lake House.
