A reunion is being organized for teachers and staff members who worked for Principal Mrs. Yvonne Brewer of Moton School Center and Moton Elementary School. Mrs. Brewer began working there in 1980 and retired in 1995. The new Moton Elementary school opened in 1990.
The dedication ceremony for the new Moton Elementary School complex, costing $6.3 million, was held on Thursday October 11, 1990. An unforeseen guest was Tropical Storm Marco, who prevented the formal raising of the flag and the release of 100 pigeons. Unfortunately not all of the 750 students were able to participate as planned, but there were about 120 teachers, parents and business people in attendance. Despite the bad weather, Leroy Selmon, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer, spoke to the Moton family on the importance of education in his own life.
Upon Mrs. Brewer’s retirement in 1995, faculty and staff of Moton dedicated the yearbook to Mrs. Brewer writing, “Change is a facet of education as well as part of our everyday lives. Mrs. Brewer has decided that the time has come for her to travel another of life’s paths. This path is less hectic and demanding, but we all know she will bring to it all the qualities that made her such a successful principal. It is with great love and admiration that we dedicate this yearbook to you, Mrs. Brewer, as a token of our respect and appreciation for the many years of hard work you have given. You have helped make Moton one of the finest schools in Hernando County… ”
Moton teachers and staff who worked for Mrs. Brewer are invited to celebrate Moton Memories on Saturday August 4, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm at Brewer’s Brooksville Chapel; 1190 S. Broad St, Brooksville. Please RSVP to Alice La Placa at 352-345-8849 or [email protected]
