BROOKSVILLE – Mike Lastra has been selected as the new principal of Brooksville Elementary. Currently, Lastra is in his 4th year as the assistant principal of Eastside Elementary. Lastra has lived in Hernando County since 1992 and is an alumnus of Central High School, Class of 1998.
Throughout the school district, Lastra is regarded for his exuberant support of educational technologies and led the effort to bring an interactive Makerspace Lab to Eastside along with the “STEAM Team” – a group of student ambassadors that brings valuable information from STEAM subject areas to varied audiences. Under Lastra’s leadership, Eastside implemented the Urban Gentleman’s Club programs to engage students in affective development.
“I am excited to be serving alongside the staff and parents of Brooksville Elementary. It is a school whose culture is grounded in and by the community,” Lastra said. “When you have that kind of support, you can make great things happen for kids.”
“Mike is a skilled leader who keeps his heart open for kids and his attention focused on quality learning experiences for students. Among other strengths, Mike’s leadership is most defined by his enthusiasm and enduring positivity. He will shine at Brooksville,” Superintendent John Stratton said.
