Week 3 of the regular season for prep football in the state of Florida was last week and we here at the Hernando Sun want to give you the Hernando County reader all the insight you can get during the 2018 campaign. We will be doing a weekly ranking of the five teams within Hernando County. We now take a look at the Hernando Sun Prep Football rankings heading into Week 4 of the regular season.
No. 1 Hernando (3-0, 0-0): 21 carries, 260 yards and five touchdowns. That was the final stay line for Hernando running back Israel Fields, who continued his phenomenal season in the backfield for the Leopards. Rob Kazmier and crew and undefeated and currently lay claim to being the last undefeated team in Hernando County.
No. 2 Nature Coast (2-1, 0-0): It didn’t take long for the Sharks to re-establish their dominance within the county and they ended up making quick work of Springstead in a 32-7 throttling of the Eagles. Along the way, running back Michael Weston had another big night, nearly rushing for 200 yards vs. Springstead.
No. 3 Springstead (2-1, 0-0): The Eagles certainly had their chances to make a statement against one of the Tampa Bay area’s top teams in Nature Coast. Instead, the Eagles weren’t able to hang with the Sharks in a 32-7 loss. Springstead has to shake it off quickly, as they open up district play against undefeated Mitchell.
No. 4 Weeki Wachee (1-2, 0-0): Maybe the Hornets need to see a few more teams from Pasco County more often? Jacob Gray’s group put on its best performance of the season in a 52-14 demolishing of Hudson Fivay. In the process, quarterback Vaughn Sykora threw six touchdown passes against the Falcons.
No. 5 Central (0-2, 0-0): The Bears have most certainly seen better days. Central suffered its second blowout loss of the season when they lost 64-0 to Gainesville Eastside. John Warren has a tough rebuilding project ahead of him and this season doesn’t get any easier for the Bears.
