Week 6 of the regular season for prep football in the state of Florida began last week and we here at the Hernando Sun want to give the Hernando County reader all the insight you can get during the 2018 campaign. We now take a look at the Hernando Sun Top 5 Prep Football Ranking heading into Week 7 of the regular season.

No. 1 Nature Coast (4-1, 2-0): It’s indisputable at this point. The Sharks have looked the part as Hernando County’s best team and Nature Coast showed some grit and fight in a 20-14 victory over Crystal River two weeks ago. Now faced with Weeki Wachee this week, the Sharks have a chance to improve to 5-1 on the campaign and 3-0 in district play.

No. 2 Springstead (4-2, 1-1): In the great words of Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers, r-e-l-a-x. Relax. After losses to Nature Coast Technical and district rival Mitchell, the Eagles are right back in the thick of things. Wins over Bradenton Lakewood Ranch and Sunlake have Springstead in a positive position heading into its final four games.

No. 3 Hernando (4-2, 1-2): Remember that time Hernando started off 4-0 to begin the 2018 season? Unfortunately back to back district losses to Inverness Citrus and Crystal River has turned their season upside down and the Leopards could miss out on the playoffs. Hernando will need a lot of help down the stretch to get things back on track.

No. 4 Weeki Wachee (2-3, 1-1): After back to back 6-touchdown performances by quarterback Vaughn Sykora, the senior signal caller came back down to earth in a humbling 41-2 loss against Inverness Citrus. It doesn’t get any easier this week for the Hornets as they face Nature Coast at home.

No. 5 Central (0-6, 0-3): The Bears latest listless performance came in a 27-0 district loss to Lecanto to put Central at 0-6 on the season. For Central, that’s the fourth time they’ve been shutout on the season.
