Members of the Weeki Wachee Swamp Fest T-Shirt Contest Committee, led by Audrey Holley, gathered at the Weeki Wachee Area Club on Shoal Line Boulevard Sept. 29, 2018 to select the winners and runners-up of the annual Swamp Festival mascot contest.
For the 2019 Swamp Fest logo, entries were required to be in black and white, 8.5 x 11 inches in size and to feature a swamp monster and critters in a swamp scene.
The design also had to be original and not computer generated.
A total of 137 entries were submitted from as far away as St. Petersburg. Student entries included 32 from Springstead High School, 24 from Challenger K 8 School and 67 from West Hernando Middle School.
Top winner in overall design was LaVerne Taylor of Clearwater; Second Place went to Michele DeVane of Palm Grove and Third Place was won by Lou Norris of Weeki Wachee. Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 were awarded to the top 3 designs overall.
Gift certificates of $25, $15 and $10 went to the top 3 children’s designs submitted from local area schools. The winning students attend Springstead High School, West Hernando Middle School and Challenger K8 School.
