BROOKSVILLE – After 31 years in education, Hernando County School District (HCSD) principal Brent Gaustad has announced his retirement effective Wednesday, October 31st. With his current position as principal of Moton Elementary (MES), Gaustad caps off an accomplished career with 11 years as a school administrator in Hernando County and across multiple levels. As principal of D.S. Parrott Middle and MES, Gaustad secured a reputation as a skilled administrator gifted in turning around low performing schools having led both out from under the watch of the Florida Department of Education.
“I have never served with an educator in Hernando County who didn’t care about their students. As an administrator, my job was to tap into their strengths, refine instruction and restore their confidence,” Gaustad said. From his letter to Moton families, “It has been an honor to serve the students and families of my community and I am fortunate to have had a full career made even better because of the incredible friends and colleagues who helped create so many wonderful memories,” Gaustad wrote.
Current Assistant Principal, Patti Martin, will take over as principal of MES and the position of assistant principal will be posted immediately.
“Brent has always taught, coached or led his school with boundless energy and a heart for kids. His drive to ensure schools are places of learning and growth is a model of leadership that will serve as inspiration for school leaders for years to come,” John Stratton, HCSD Superintendent said.
The Hernando County School Board invites members of the media and community to join us in recognizing and celebrating Gaustad’s career at the October 23rd meeting at 6 PM.
