SPECIAL TO THE HERNANDO SUN

A tough week for the Hernando High School boys soccer team, 2A Mount Dora started out the week coming to Tom Fisher stadium on Monday night. The score line doesn’t reflect the game in full as the Leopards had 56% of the game’s possession but couldn’t make opportunities count as they went down 6-0 to a team widely known to win their District.

Wednesday saw the Hornets enter the Leopards cage with Weeki Wachee coming into town for a District encounter. The night was to be a two sided coin for Goalkeeper Jordan Goss who after being left stranded for the Hornets opener came back to save a penalty as the game finished 3-3.  Two goals from Leopards’ Jacob Kelly and a leveler from Noah Bedard were cancelled out by Hornets Seth Tarbox, Luis Endara and Rafael Garcia.

Luis Endara was on the score sheet again for Weeki Wachee on Friday as they got their weekend off to a great start with a 4-1 victory over Springstead. Aaron Jimenez (2) and Josh Bondulich wrapping up the scoring for them.

This meant Springstead ended the week with two district loses after succumbing to Pasco 8-0 on Monday evening in Dade City.

Hernando had a tough non-conference battle against Seffner Christian on Friday.  They were able to tie up the game 1-1 just under 2 minutes before half time, but during the second half Seffner dominated offensively to put 2 more goals in- ending the game at 3-1.

Nature Coast Tech meanwhile were having a tremendous all district week as they toppled both Wesley Chapel (5-1) and Zephyrhills (7-3). This means the Sharks and Pasco sit atop the 3A District 7 standings having won all four of their opening matches. At the bottom both Zephyrhills and Wesley Chapel round out the places, both being unable to pick up any points so far.

The Hernando High School ‘Lady Leopards’ girls team ended the week on a high after they travelled to Gulf and strolled to an 8-1 non district victory. Earlier in the week however they went down fighting 2-0 away to Nature Coast on Monday before a 8-1 defeat at Weeki Wachee leaves them winless in the district so far.

Elsewhere in the District it’s Wesley Chapel who lead the way with a 100% winning record. Zephyrhills, Springstead and Hernando failing to pick up a win in district so far.

Elsewhere in the county on Monday evening Hernando Christian Academy made the journey to Valrico coming away on the wrong side of a 8-0 defeat at Foundation Christian Academy.
