The Fourth Annual Shriners Benefit Car Show/Cruise In for the fight against Spina Bifida was held at United Speed World in Tampa on October 27. It was a tremendous success raising $26,000 for the Shriners Hospital for Children-Tampa.
The Joyners live in Brooksville but run United Speed World in Tampa. Their son Westin has Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida means “split spine” in Latin. It is a condition where a baby’s neural tube does not fully close. This causes the backbone of the the baby to not fully form. In the United States, Spina Bifida effects about 1500 to 2000 out of 4 million babies born per year in the United States.
The $26,000 was donated to the Shriners Hospital for Children-Tampa. The Joyners made a great contribution. They had help from Brooksville with Deep South BBQ supplying food for the event.
