On 12-04-18, members of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, along with members of the Hernando County Detention Center Special Response Team, were conducting training in the parking lot of the jail located at 16425 Spring Hill Drive, Brooksville.

During the training, K-9 Deputy Jeff Andrews was walking K-9 Valor around vehicles in the visitation parking lot when Valor alerted to the possibility of drugs inside a vehicle.

Deputies determined the vehicle belonged to Valerie Howard, B/F DOB/03-14-1998, who was inside the jail’s visitation center.

Deputies proceeded to make contact with Howard inside the visitation center.

Howard confirmed it was her vehicle and allowed deputies inside the vehicle to conduct a search.

Inside the vehicle deputies located a grinder, along with a small amount of marijuana.

Howard was arrested on charges of Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Her bond was set at $2,000.
