PHSC went up against SPC Titans (St. Petersburg College) for the second time this season and SPC dominated their home court, however there was a something different Monday night, a different vibe on the court.
“You have to come every night ready to play, hard as you play and when you don’t, these things happen,” said head basketball coach Micheal Jones.
Looking back when they faced the Titans on their first matchup Nov. 10, just a 10 point gap showed the Bobcats that they had potential to a win when played them on Nov. 26. The game statistics results showed potential for the Bobcats with Field goals: 38.2% to Titans 41.3%, 3 pointers: 35.3% to Titans 37.9%, turnovers: 14 to Titans 18. However the rebounds just lacked for the Bobcats and unfortunately this carried into their second match up.
“It’s a lack of effort and I am not going to make excuses, the bottom line is fundamentals,” Jones said. “It takes no athleticism to rebound or play defense just effort and desire.”
Towards the end of the second quarter, the Bobcats went into a harder defensive mode, but still couldn’t defend their court against the Titans. Titans controlled the rebounds 50 to PSHC 18 which showed in the final score: PHSC 75, Titans 113.
“Doesn’t matter what level, what sport, you have to want to play defense,” Jones said. “When you have guys that just want to play offense and don’t play defense it’s hard to win, and it showed tonight.”
The Bobcats had two away games and an opportunity to turn around their six game losing streak and they accomplished that. Bobcats won against Warner University (90-85) on Nov. 29 and against Johnson University (84-81).
