On Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 the Brooksville franchise of Spherion Staffing Services presented a check for $1,000 to K9 Partners for Patriots (K9PFP). The ceremony took place at the new headquarters of K9PFP – 15322 Aviation Loop Drive, Brooksville.
Prior to the presentation, Mary Peter, founder and CEO of the organization and a Certified Master Dog Trainer took nine veterans and their service dogs through a training session. The dogs were an assortment of breeds – such as Chihuahua, German Shepherd and Golden Doodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle mix), proving that virtually any dog can be a service dog, given the proper training.
The session consisted of such exercises as teaching the dogs to stay by their owners’ side while being distracted. It is very important that the dogs do not respond to extraneous stimuli and that the veterans explain to curious people that their dogs can not be pet or fed.
Teri Nichols, owner of the Spherion Staffing franchise in Brooksville presented the check to Ms. Peter. Accompanying Ms. Nichols were three of her staff members who happen to be veterans. SFC (Retired) Michael S. Spaulding, Spherion Client Delivery Manager, served in the United States Army. He saw combat while deployed in Afghanistan and was awarded a Purple Heart. Master Gunnery Sergeant (Retired) Paul Spaulding, Spherion On-Premise Manager, served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty-six years. His combat tours included Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005) and Operation Enduring Freedom (2009-2010). Marty Monegro, Spherion Branch Manager, served for ten years in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Supervisor and did tours in North Dakota, Germany, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.
In the past, Spherion has done Community Give Back donations to The Arc Nature Coast. The company also supports many other non-profits throughout the community by serving on several boards, volunteering in events and through sponsorships.
Ms. Nichols stated, “We selected K9 Partners for Patriots as this year’s donation recipient due to the organization’s commitment to helping veterans in the Brooksville community find purpose, hope and healing.”
She continued, “We are deeply grateful for the work of K9 Partners for Patriots and its team of volunteers. This organization makes a tremendous impact on our community and the lives of our neighbors in need. We are honored to spread the spirit of the season to support those who help others.”
