Working tirelessly on this investigation since the morning of 12-14-18, detectives received information this morning that Jose Carrasquillo was in New Jersey.
Hernando County detectives contacted, and remained in communication with, authorities in New Jersey to facilitate the arrest of Carrasquillo.
Carrasquillo was taken into custody this afternoon at a motel in Elizabeth, N.J., by the officers at Elizabeth Police Department.

Detectives have released the name of the individual wanted in connection with this incident.
A warrant for the arrest of Jose Arturo Carrasquillo H/M DOB/11-24-1981 has been issued. Carrasquillo will be charged with Aggravated Battery w/a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm when he is located.
Additionally, Carrasquillo is a Registered Sex Offender, currently in violation of the terms of his release. An additional felony warrant is forthcoming later today to address the violation.
Carrasquillo was operating a 2014 Chrysler 200 or 300, white or grey in color, bearing Florida tag/HCKP39 but is believed to be using another vehicle at this time.
Carrasquillo’s physical description is as follows:

Height – 509
Weight – 170
Eye Color – Brown
Hair Color – Black
Tattoos – Praying Hands w/Rosary and Cross on R arm, Rose and “L K Umerta” on L hand, Tear drops under L eye, several other tattoos.
Please use caution and do not approach – Carrasquillo is known to be armed with a 9 mm handgun.
Original Information – 12-14-18
On 12-13-18 at 6:59 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Circle K gas station located at 14195 Elgin Blvd., in reference to a shooting that had just occurred.
While deputies arrived on scene less than a minute after the first 911 call, both the suspect and the victim had already left the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot come from the fuel pump area and then seeing a man enter a white car and flee the area heading west on Elgin Boulevard.
They also observed a second man get into a black SUV and drive around the fuel pumps before stopping. The witnesses said they could see the driver of the SUV had been shot.
The driver, later identified as Quincy Oakman, B/M DOB/03-27-79, proceeded to drive from the gas station to his home in Sterling Hills where he then had his wife drive him to the hospital. Oakman is expected to make a full recovery.
This was an isolated incident that was a result of a drug deal.
Detectives are actively working to identify and apprehend the shooting suspect.
