It’s finally here! The soccer District tournaments kick off at 4pm on Friday 25th January.
David Shrader takes his Hernando Leopards girls team to Wesley Chapel as they face off against number 5 seed Pasco. During the regular season they faced off against each other twice already. Back on the 3rd December and it was the Pirates who came out on top of an end to end tie. The final score of 5-4 gave them a narrow victory in what was the Leopards 4th district game of the season. Payback was to come for Shrader’s team as they traveled to Pasco just two weeks before this district encounter. They came away from the return fixture with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
The Leopards host South Sumter as a warm up to district play.
The winner of this tie will play number 1 seed Wesley Chapel at 6pm on Tuesday 29th January.
The 6pm kick off on Friday will see number 3 Weeki Wachee as the ‘home’ team as the Springstead Eagles face them. Coach Fierro will be hoping for a repeat of the regular season. With back to back victories for his Hornets who easily tamed the Eagles with 4-1 and 3-0 victories. With both of those fixtures played in 2018 the Eagles will be hoping to build on the 3 wins they obtained in early 2019 to cause an upset.
The winner of this tie earns the right to play the winner of Zephyrhills vs Nature Coast at 8pm on Tuesday 29th January.
Friday night’s final game of the first round will kick off at 8pm with the number 7 Zephyrhills facing off against Brandon Chitwood’s Nature Coast Sharks.
The Sharks finished the season in the number 2 spot and will be favorites to progress comfortably past a Zephyrhills team that have only won once all season.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs they only managed to score once past the Sharks this season and conceded 15 goals on the way to back to back losses.
They will be hoping the magic of the district tournament can help them cause an upset.
The winner of this tie earns the right to play the winner of Springstead vs Weeki Wachee at 8pm on Tuesday 29th January.
