UF/IFAS Hernando County Extension is the education arm of the University of Florida in
Hernando County. Scott E. Taylor, the Family, and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent provides educational programming on financial and money management topics such as Credit Usage and Debt Reduction, Budgeting, Goal Setting, Savings, and Investing, and a whole host of other financial management related areas.

These programs consist of single “stand-alone” programs like those currently being offered each week at one of the four Hernando County libraries, on-site programs at local businesses (lunch & learn), and multiple week series of programs to cover “overall financial health.” While most of these programs were developed to address general financial information, they can be customized to include specific information in regards to a local company’s benefits and or retirement options.

Hernando County Extension has partnered with United Way of the Nature Coast,
Catholic Charities Diocese of St. Petersburg, Hernando County Health and Human Services, Hernando County Health Department and other local organizations to provide basic money management education to residents of Hernando County.

In addition to formal classroom type programming, residents can receive free financial
coaching through the Florida Master Money Mentor (FMMM) program. The FMMM program
provides financial education to rural and low-to-moderate-income Florida families with the
emphasis being on one-on-one peer education.

Participants in the program can receive assistance in developing spending plans, organizing financial records, understanding credit and planning for the future. The overall goal is to increase financial knowledge and promote positive financial practices.

In partnership with Bank of America and with support from United Way of Hernando
County, FMMM provides FREE financial support through local workshops on:

 Simple Strategies for Managing Your Money
 Budgeting
 Developing Effective Savings Plans
 Insurance and Estate Planning
 Getting Ready for Retirement
