Springstead High School hosted the second Invitational track and field meet for the season. Lecanto, Central, Springstead, Weeki Wachee, Hernando, Hudson, and Fivay were present and ready to compete.
As there are students who are participating in track, who are currently involved in other sports- attendance and results may change from meet to meet.
Hernando’s track coach Jon Malandrucco explained they are seeking ways to build up their students’ confidence.
“We’ve got to get these kids confident,” Malandrucco said. “Because the confidence level isn’t here.”
Weeki Wachee and Springstead both had a high representation for their schools during the invitational.
“It’s a matter of seeing where we are and getting a baseline,” Weeki Wachee girls track coach Patrick Skipper said. “We got a lot of new kids running this year, and we’ll work our way down from there.”
Weeki Wachee boys track coach Shane Tarbox said,
“We have a lot of young guys and not senior-heavy, and some students are still trying to find their place where they fit in as far as track goes. It will give us coaches an idea of what we need to work on and where these kids need to focus themselves.”
For the Springstead girls track coach, he is happy to say that it is more about getting the experience than setting any records.
“I do not get excited at these early meets,” Myers said. “This is just a starting point.”
