On 04-01-19 just after 10 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Emergency Department at Bayfront Health Brooksville after dispatchers received a call from staff there advising that a male had just arrived with a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, deputies met with hospital staff who advised that a white male, later identified as David Gene Podmokly, recently arrived at the Emergency Department with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. Podmokly was in a treatment room, receiving medical care.
Podmokly told deputies that he was robbed, and provided a fairly thorough description of the suspect. Podmokly also provided a location where the robbery occurred – an area off Broad Street in Brooksville. He then changed the location to a more commercial area – still within Brooksville, then changed the location to a completely different commercial area.
Deputies responded to all three areas in search of a possible crime scene(s), yielding negative results in each area.
As Major Case detectives arrived at the hospital to interview Podmokly, he changed his story again. This time he stated that he drove to the area of South Brooksville to purchase illegal narcotics and made contact with a black male to do so. At some point during the transaction, the black male attempted to rob Podmokly and shot him in the shoulder.
Forensics Specialists processed Podmokly’s vehicle for physical evidence.
Major Case detectives continue their investigation into this case.
Podmokly’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
