The 68th Annual Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show wrapped up last week. Our Florida fairs provide a way for Floridians to showcase and promote the agricultural resources of our state through events of all types. In December of 1950 at the urging of J.C. Huskisson, Asst. Manager of the Florida State Fair, Tampa and John Henry Logan, Manager of the Pinellas County Fair then in Largo, FL, a letter was circulated to all county fairs in Florida. The letter invited county fair representatives to a meeting to discuss “the advantages and advisability of organizing a State Association of Fairs and Shows… the latter alluding to Livestock Shows.” You could read the history of our Florida Fairs and Livestock shows at www.floridafairs.org.
Opening day of the Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show was Friday April 12, 2019 and ran through the last blast Saturday April 20, 2019. It was nine days packed with fun, food, drinks, free items, rides, events, livestock shows, agricultural competitions, auctions, a demolition derby, live music and the magic show. That’s just to name a few of the highlights. You really don’t want to miss our small town fair here in Brooksville.
