(Spring Hill, FL) Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a reported residential structure fire at 6444 Barclay Ave at 11:44 pm last night. Initial calls from persons in the area reported that flames were coming from the roof of the single-story home. Bystanders also reported that there could possibly be someone inside. They attempted to call for the person by knocking on the door but received no response.
The first HCFR unit arrived on scene within 4 minutes and reported fully involved structure fire. A portion of the roof did collapse prior to fire crews initiating their fire attack. Crews did coordinate a defensive fire attack on the fire until conditions would allow a search of the structure. The fire was subsequently extinguished, and crews did locate a male victim inside the structure. Information on the victim is being withheld until notification of next of kin is confirmed.
The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations has been called to investigate the fire. No information on the cause is available at this time.
