Mrs. Espinosa explained that the competition provides opportunities for students to compete in declamation, impromptu speech and dramatic presentation. “Our county has participated in this competition for years and this evening we are proud to recognize our 2019 team from Springstead High School who won first place,” she said.

Sixteen of the students gave improvised two minute speeches in Spanish in which 12 received outstanding ranking and four received superior rankings. Outstanding and superior are the two highest scores possible.

Of the six who recited poems, five received outstanding rankings and one received a superior ranking.  As a group they wrote, created props for and presented a play which they received the maximum score possible- 40 out of 40 points.  They earned a total of 950 points out of a total of 1000- making them number 1 in the state of Florida in their division.

The group received a standing ovation during the board meeting.
