Two years in a row, The Hernando Sun has taken home awards from the annual Florida Press Association’s Weekly Newspaper Contest. On Friday July 12, we received two first place awards for the 2018 competition. Our columnist Vincent Cardegin won first place for the humorous column category and photographer/reporter Alice Mary Herden took home the distinguished Robert J. Ellison Memorial Award for her Portfolio Photography. Herden also received second place in the environmental reporting category for her in depth article on the ill effects of discarded monofilament, entitled “On Bayou Drive.” The Hernando Sun is elated to be honored with these recognitions.
