On Tuesday, August 13 Nature Coast Tech hosted a Preseason Volleyball Classic featuring four teams; Hernando High, Hudson, Nature Coast, and Weeki Wachee.
After months of practice, the preseason is a test run to see how the team fares under the pressure of competition. Preseason matches give players the opportunity to synchronize with their teammates on the court. Preseason also applies to the coaches. They can see where the players fit and where they would have to make any adjustments before the official season begins.
Hernando’s Lady Leopards defeated Weeki Wachee’s Lady Hornets in the Pre-Season tournament final.
Hernando High Athletics reports, “The Lady Leopard Volleyball team defeated Weeki Wachee two sets to one (22-25, 26-24, 16-14) at Nature Coast High School, to finish the pre-season schedule 2-0. The Lady Leopards were led by Olivia Balogh who had four aces, thirteen points with eight of those being kills. Riley Gowing and Olivia Hatten had sixteen and thirteen assist respectively. Nicole Williams had a team high nine kills.”
The official high school season began on Tuesday, August 20. Hernando Christian started their season on Monday, August 19 as the Lions took on Tampa’s Universal Academy.
