On Saturday Sept. 7, the fall season for the Spring Hill NFL Flag Football League at Delta Woods Park kicked off. The park’s only football field was filled with kids aged four, up to the more competitive teenagers. Local high school and middle school coaches were in attendance including Central’s football coach Robert Walden, Explorer’s coach Billy Hughes and Springstead’s Athletic Director Dustin Kupcik. Referees included Nature Coach Tech’s golfer Michael Machnicki and quarterback Vaughn Sykora.
“On the football field, I think it’s definitely trying to stay hype and be with your team. But out here you have to see the game as a whole,” said Nature Coast Tech’s quarterback Vaughn Sykora. “I have to stay more aware of everything on the field and make sure the kids are having a good time.”
Andrew Sitar and his wife, Lana along with his brother John formed the Spring Hill NFL Flag Football League in 2017.
“My kids were doing other youth sports, and there were just a lot of things I thought could be much better for the kids, a better experience. We want to provide that overall experience for the kids,” said League President Andrew Sitar.
The league offers spring, fall and winter seasons and is currently in their third year. With twenty-two teams donning uniforms of their favorite NFL Football Team, the league continues to provide a great youth sports program for kids in Hernando County.
“We make sure we give the kids the best overall experience,” Sitar said. “We are teaching them good morale, teamwork, and sportsmanship.”
