The Central Bears volleyball team was so close to a win, but fell short two points at the end of set 5 when they faced Crystal River Tuesday night Sept. 10, 2019.
Earlier in the season, the team has faced strong contenders like Lecanto, Nature Coast Tech and Springstead. The girls have produced some pretty good competitive sets thus far. According to Coach Nikki LaRiviere, the team’s talent is there, but it’s about how they are executing their competitive level facing their opponents.
“Whatever level of talent that we are playing against that is where they rise to,” Coach LaRiviere said.
How she explained the competitive level is interesting. Regardless of what skill and/or talent the opposing team has, the girls seem not to exceed above or below that level.
Going up against Crystal River proved their potential to put some wins on the board. It’s like they are right there, but at a stalemate.
Coach LaRiviere also sees another issue that needs to be addressed on the court: discipline in position roles.
“Some of them like to take over because they don’t trust their teammates, it’s been a battle back and forth since last year,” she said.
The Bears put their effort into the very last point. They showcased some great blocks, some fantastic saves and the Junior Varsity team cheered them on to the very end.
“To watch them win these two sets tonight was impressive because they know they can do it.”
