WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2019) — Bring your wieners and grab some fall brews during Marker 48 Brewing’s fourth annual Oktoberfest featuring The Running of the Wieners on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The races this year will benefit the Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida, Inc., which describes itself on its website as “a group of friends, passionate about rescue, focused on the needs of the dogs and united in mutual respect for each other. We possess an unyielding drive to save or improve the lives of the dogs that cross our path and we are proud to be working together in a positive manner to make a difference in as many canine lives as possible.”

The trophies are not limited to dachshunds, though. Preliminary races are open to small, medium and large dogs of all breeds, and Saturday’s festivities kick off with a Pet Costume Contest from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Humans can get involved, too, with a Lederhosen & Drindl Contest in the afternoon, and the Stein Holding Contest each hour from 7 to 11 p.m.

In addition to their version of the traditional Oktoberfest Marzen lager, Marker 48 will be serving other traditional German beer styles such as Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen, Kottbusser and Erntbier, all brewed on premise, as well as regular favorites such as Red Right Return Irish Red Ale and Pine Island IPA. Wine, mead and cider will be available as well.

All drinks will be just $5 each all day and night, using a beer token system to keep the lines moving quickly. There will be multiple beer stations to keep the liquid gold flowing, as well as food trucks, live music and plenty of other fun activities.

And while supplies last, Oktoberfest steins and boots currently are on sale in the taproom for $20, which includes a 20 oz. fill — and you can bring it back during the Oktoberfest celebration for $5 20 oz. fills all day and night.

This is a family and pet-friendly event all weekend. Utilizing Uber, Lyft and taxi services is encouraged.  There will be additional bathrooms, tents, tables and chairs for the expected large crowd.
