On Nov. 26, 2019 Bayfront Health in Brooksville hosted an event in honor of a fundraiser they did throughout the summer with OMG Pretzel Bites. Bayfront’s pretzel bite sales raised money for United Way of Hernando County.

The United Way Hernando County program offers a lot! They work on improving the community we live in. They fight to make sure Hernando County has the best health, education, and financial stability. The mission of United Way is to inspire leaders and partners, and mobilize resources to strengthen the lives of people in our community. Their vision is to build a strong, caring community and to improve the quality of life here in Hernando.

United Way has many fundraising programs. One of the biggest is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program where a child receives a free book once a month from the day they are born to age five to help prepare them for kindergarten. Around 1400 kids a month receive a book through this program. About $35,000 a year goes to the literacy program. They also help the Boy and Girl Scout programs here in the county, Boys and Girls Club of Hernando, Jericho Road Ministries, and many more.

During the summer Bayfront Hospital joined with OMG Pretzel Bites to help raise money for United Way of Hernando County. Ken Wicker, CEO of Bayfront Health Brooksville presented the check on Nov. 26 to Angie Bonfardino-Walasek who is the director/CEO of United Way of Hernando County. Bayfront raised $753.18 for the United Way program. “We have so much to be thankful for, it’s a joy to have been selected to receive the donation from this fundraiser,” Angie exclaimed!

United Way of Hernando is hosting another event in February known as the Kickstart to Literacy event. This event is held at Anderson Snow Park and is a fun kickball tournament amongst the many partnerships that donate to United Way. “I can’t thank all of our partnerships enough that we have here with United Way, this year was filled with so many accomplishments but if anything it was a testament of how we are truly powered by our partnerships,” Angie shared. Sixteen teams are currently set to participate. This is a perfect family fun day.

Bayfront plans to continue to help and give back to the United Way program. If you’re interested in ways you can help the community we live in, reach out to United Way of Hernando County. They are located at 4028 Commercial Way, Spring Hill or you may contact them at 352-688-2026.
