Hernando County schools have some solid basketball programs in the 2019-2020 school year. Below are a few games we think are the matchups to watch for this week in Hernando County for high school basketball on the boys end.
Nature Coast (4-1) at Wesley Chapel (3-1): The battle between top teams from Hernando County and Pasco County will take place this week. Nature Coast is coming off recently its first loss of the season as they face Wesley Chapel, which boasts one of the best teams in the area. Winner of this game should build some momentum heading into the winter break. Tuesday, Dec 17 at 7:30 PM
Springstead (6-1) at Central (8-0): Stop the presses on Springstead and Central! Both clubs have come out on fire to begin the season, as they’re a combined 14-1. Central’s 8-0 start is very impressive and the Bears have a chance to keep its undefeated mark intact. Springstead just recently beat Nature Coast, solidifying their stance as county best. Bushnell South Sumter (4-3) at Central (8-0): Breakup the Bears, as this group has been one of the hottest teams in Hernando County this season. Rushing off to a solid 8-0 start through the first eight games, one has to wonder how far can the Bears take this sizzling start? Facing an out of county opponent in Bushnell South Sumter should help gauge the Bears a little bit. Wednesday, December 18 at 7:30pm
Hernando (2-4) at Hudson Fivay (3-3): It hasn’t been the kind of start to the season that Hernando had quite hoped for, but the Leopards did graduate a couple of their top scorers from a year ago. Now Hernando has a chance this week to bounce back against a talented Hudson Fivay squad. A win by Hernando would be a nice notch in their belt heading into the winter break. Weeki Wachee (1-5) at New Port Richey River Ridge (0-7): No team in Hernando County has had a tougher start to the regular season than Weeki Wachee. The Hornets have notched one win so far through six games, but Weeki Wachee has a great opportunity to win its second game of the season. Weeki Wachee faces a winless New Port Richey River Ridge team on the road. Thursday, December 19 at 7:30pm
