On 12-31-19 in the early afternoon hours, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the northern section of the county regarding a Suicide Attempt.

Dispatchers received information that a child (younger than 13 years of age) was in the home with a sibling.  The child, in question, reportedly had just been dropped off from having attended a mental health counseling session.  The sibling in the home was unable to make contact with the child, who was inside the bathroom.

A neighbor was contacted to provide assistance.

The neighbor made entry into the bathroom to find the child unresponsive.  The neighbor also observed that all of the child’s prescribed medication was gone.

Deputy James Devorak was the first to arrive on scene.  After quickly assessing the child, Deputy Devorak administered a single dose of Narcan.  Shortly thereafter, the child became responsive.

The child was transported to a local hospital by Hernando County Fire Rescue.  Physicians expect the child to make a full recovery.

Once medically cleared, the child will receive additional mental health services.
