Hernando Beach, Fla. — A local father and son, Vinnie Taormina and Anthony Taormina, along with their good friend, Earl Arthur are tapping into a new hobby after a Pasco County Radio Controlled Hobby store closed.
Vinnie said, “we [raced] RC cars and trucks at first, and we just recently- two years ago- started with the boats, they’re a little fun and different than cars.”. Anthony has been around radio-controlled vehicles since a very young age.
“Just having fun with it. The little one, having him around he loves to [race] also,” Anthony said referring to his four-year-old son, Anthony Jr.
Earl tried the RC cars but took more of a liking to the RC boats. “When they got the boats, I was able to handle it better on the water, now it’s a great hobby for us,” said Earl.
On a weekday at Linda Pedersen Park in Spring Hill, you may find this crew with their trucks loaded up with tools, batteries, replacement parts and repair equipment. The best of the 80’s music vibrates through the speakers to get the atmosphere ready for racing!
“We get to listen to good music while we are boating,” Anthony said.
Vinnie is also looking for other RC boat enthusiasts in Hernando County to meet up and even create a group that may even start entering in competitive racing and tournaments.
