March events that have canceled due to COV-19
Due to recent suggestions made by our government and state, many events have decided that it is in the best interest of the public health and safety to postpone or reschedule many events. We have put this list together of events that have had changes.
The Chamber of Commerce has postponed the Chamber Golf Classic scheduled for March 19th to May 12th and the location has changed to Southern Hills Plantation Club. The Centennial Celebration Luncheon – She Votes scheduled for March 26th has also been postponed a rescheduled date is not presently determined.
The Olive Grove has rescheduled the last two workshops: Making “Wine Bottle Chimes” and “Fairy Gardens” to September when they open for the Fall Season once again. They are also canceling their year-end party scheduled for March 28th.
Temple Beth David has postponed their 25th Annual Jewish Food Fest scheduled for March 22. A new date will be posted as soon as possible. All your favorites will be available at that time! Scrumptious homemade traditional Jewish favorites- knishes, matzo ball soup, corned beef & pastrami sandwiches, yummy desserts, much more!
The PHP 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off has been canceled, which was originally was scheduled for March 21st 11 to 3. No new schedule has been posted.
The March 21st SUP for the Pups – Community Paddle 5 to 7 has been postponed. A date for rescheduling has not yet been posted.
The Central Florida Sportsman Expo that was scheduled for March 28th and March 29th has been postponed until September 26th and September 27th.
The Brooksville Main Street has suspended Uncommonly Artsy scheduled for March 28th as well as Arts and Autos until September 19th.
Chinsegut Conservation Center programs will be temporarily suspended at Chinsegut. The Center is still open Friday and Saturday for those that would like to hike the trails. The trails may be accessed daily through the parking area at Snow Memorial and US 41.
Some of the classes at the University of Florida/IFAS Extension at Hernando County have been moved to Facebook online via https://www.facebook.com/HernandoExt/. These include the Tuesday, March 17, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm class Home Hydroponics with Master Gardener Jason Murray and the Tuesday, March 24, 10:00 am-11:00 am class All About Ladybugs with Master Gardener Angela Reid. They have postponed the following classes scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 8:00 am-1:00 pm 1st Time Home Buyers Class, the Saturday, March 21, 9:00 am-10:15 am Native Bee Workshop (they have stated all registration fees have been refunded and are hoping to be able to offer this class in May), and the Monday, March 23, 9:30 am-4:00 pm Horseshoe Crab Watch Spring 2020 Training. The Saturday, March 28 & Sunday, March 29, 9:00 am-5:00 pm Central Florida Sportsman’s Expo has also been postponed. The University of Florida/IFAS Extension at Hernando County states they have several other classes and activities scheduled to be given at the office and are in the process of making decisions if they will occur as scheduled or be offered online or postponed till a later date.
Second Annual Blues at the Ranch has canceled March 20th to the 22nd due to the need to protect their older and immune-compromised attendees and the fact that many of their bands that were scheduled to perform at the festival have lost their tours due to festival cancelations.
The Tampa Bay Literary Society event scheduled for March 27th, Dr. Phyll: Rejection 101 – Free Comedy Show for Teens, has been rescheduled for the first week of May. A specific date and time have not been set.
Wine Tasting: Fundraiser for Hernando County Public Libraries scheduled for March 21st at Strong Tower Vineyard and Winery from 7 to 9 is canceled. No rescheduled date has been set at this time.
The May Stringer House, the 1885 Train Depot, and Countryman One-Room schoolhouse are closed until further notice. The ghost tour scheduled for Friday, March 20th at 8 is canceled and the other ghost tours at The May Stringer House will be scheduled on a case by case basis.
NAMI Hernando is canceling all classes and support groups through the end of March.
Programs and classes at all the library branches are canceled until further notice.
The Viva Florida Wildflower Planting Day scheduled for March 28th 9 to 3 at Nature Coast Botanical Garden is canceled.
The Brooksville Bike Rally March 28th, 11 to 4 at 615 Hospital Rd, Brooksville, FL 34601 is canceled for March.
The Hernando Bar 5K 10k scheduled for 3/21/20 at Weeki Wachee Preserve at 8 AM is postponed until the end of May. Specifics for May are not set at this time.
Oak Hill Hospital has out of an abundance of caution, canceled all events, classes, and support groups until further notice. They will update when events and classes and support groups are reinstated.
Bayfront Health is temporarily suspending all non-essential activities and events such as health education classes, tobacco cessation classes, and support groups, etc.
The 2020 EMS Spring Fest at Sertoma Youth Ranch. March 26-29th, 2020 has been canceled.
The Farmer’s Market at Spring Hill at 3021 Commercial Way currently scheduled for Saturday, March 21st 10 to 3 is canceled, but they are planning to have it the following Saturday, March 28th
The Pasco-Hernando State College Hernando Cares 5K scheduled 3/28 from 8:30 to 12:00 has been canceled.
The Hernando Audobon Society meeting scheduled for March 26th Backyard Birdfeeding is canceled.
The Hernando Growers Association and Tractor Supply have decided to cancel the Brooksville Farmers Market this Sunday in the interest of public health. When it does reopen be aware the Sunday market moved to Tractor Supply at 18741 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville. The growers association wants you to know that your local farmers are still available and have lots of fresh produce and products to sell. Masaryk Winery has canceled its Sunday Craft Show scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the 22nd of March but the U-Pick is open. There are strawberries, lettuce, swiss chard, kale, herbs and much more. The blueberries are just coming in, blackberries soon. U-pick is safe, and easy to social distance yourself with lots of fresh air.
This has just been canceled. Hernando Chapter Florida Native Plant Society Spring Sale of Native Plants scheduled for March 21st 9 to 1 is off.
Stage West Playhouse has all plays and performances, classes, and events postponed for the remainder of their season for 8 weeks pending further COVID-19 restrictions
What’s Still On? As of the week of March 15th, the following events have not been canceled.
The Car Show scheduled for March 25th at Towne Square Mall from 5 to 8 is outside and remains scheduled.
The Airport Farmers and Flea Market scheduled weekly on Saturday and Sundays at 17375 Spring Hill Drive from 8 to 3 is not canceled.
Hernando Chapter Florida Native Plant Society Spring Sale of Native Plants scheduled for March 21st 9 to 1 is on. It is at Russell Street Park just south of Downtown Brooksville, where the Depot Museum and the Good Neighbor Trailhead meet. They recommend you get there early for the best selection.
The Historic Downtown Brooksville Mural Tour guided by Jan Knowles of The Hernando County Arts Council is still scheduled for March 20th.
All the March Hernando Audobon Society events are currently scheduled as planned except the March 26th meeting. Check the Hernando Sun calendar for dates and times of their events.
