Louis “Jeff” Stabins was a unique local politician. He enjoyed being different. He would wear outfits that were sure to be noticed. He was well known for wearing a bright green jacket.
Jeff recently made a splash running for President of the United States with the slogan “Make America Good Again.” He traveled around the country in an RV painted with the slogan.
Jeff was elected to two terms on the Hernando County Commission (2004-2012) and three terms in the Florida House of Representatives (1992-1998). Jeff did not run for a third term on the Hernando County Commission in 2012.
Before Jeff was elected to office he was a public school teacher from 1984-2009. He taught history at Hernando High before successfully running for office. He definitely made an impression on many students. His former students regale each other with stories about Jeff.
The Hernando County Sheriff Office (HCSO) Public Information Officer Denise Moloney was able to confirm that the “HCSO handled a Death Investigation on 03-15-20 at 3218 Abeline Road in Spring Hill. The deceased has been identified as Louis Jeffrey Stabins, 60 years of age. Preliminary investigation reveals no foul play.”
We reached out to the family representative and he said he hoped that everyone would respect the family’s privacy at this time. Jeff loved his country and really believed in it. He was also very fond of his adopted home of Hernando County.
