Show Us Your Sunshine: Lunch for ER staff & Radio Auction

Great Life Church of Spring Hill loves their city. And recently, they showed some sunshine to hardworking medical staff at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville.

As part of their Love Your City community program, Great Life volunteers conducted an Oak Hill Hospital Outreach March 26; delivering 50 full lunches to the hospital’s ER staff.

“Julian Escoda is our Kids Life Pastor at Great Life Church and also oversees our Love Your City ministry. With our team we were able to connect with Tyana Beeker, a lady who attends our church and works at Oak Hill Hospital to provide 50 lunches for the ER staff on duty,” explained Victoria Bilsborough, Communications Director of Great Life Church. “To prepare these lunches we partnered with our local Brooksville Culver’s to create a delicious burger and fries lunch to bless all our caregivers who have been working so hard.”

This act of giving, according to Bilsborough, was truly a team effort.

“When our team arrived to pick up the food at Culver’s on Thursday afternoon, the friendly staff at Culver’s including Nate Drury, the owner, helped us prepare and package all the meals and even stapled our flyers to the food bags,” she said. “It was such a blessing to not only bless our community but support a local business that we love during this time.”

Another community project has raised more than $20,000 for a well-known philanthropic society and its great work in the Hernando community.

The Brooksville Rotary Club is celebrating the amazing success of their 42nd Radio Auction, which raised $23,004 for Rotary projects and causes.

The auction was conducted safely online and over the radio at WWJB 1450AM and WXJB 99.9FM, with guests vying for prizes that included vacations, restaurant and business gift certificates, nursery services, and even specialty items like CEMEX rock and hearing aids.

“People really enjoyed voting online and competing for the items,” said Karen Nicolai, treasurer and Rotary District Area 7 assistant gov. of the Brooksville Rotary Club. “It brought some happiness and excitement into their lives.”

And as bidders enjoyed some much needed sunshine, they supported a number of worthwhile Rotary projects.

Proceeds from the Brooksville Rotary Club Radio Auction go to fund the annual purchase of dictionaries for every third-grader in the Hernando County school system, special community projects like the building of the playground and animal shelter at the Dawn Center of Hernando County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, and the upcoming splash park project at Anderson Snow Park.

“Every year for 42 years,” said Nicolai. “This auction is a very cool thing.”
