On April 20, 2020, a tornado that touched down in Marion County on I-75 near mile marker 340 caused some big damage, but it could have been much worse. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a tractor trailer hauling a 36 foot building was travelling southbound on I-75 in the outside lane while a Ford F150 traveled behind it in the inside lane. As the two vehicles approached mile marker 340, a tornado touched down and lifted the portable building from the trailer of the Tractor Trailer. Airborne, the building then traveled in an easterly direction striking the right rear of the Ford F-150. The building continued eastward above the northbound lanes of the Interstate until it landed on the east grass shoulder in multiple pieces. According to the FHP report, the driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any injuries, while the driver of the Ford F-150 suffered minor injuries and $2000 worth of damage to his vehicle. The building did not fare so well.
