A media release from Hernando County Fire Rescue reports that a fire at 5399 Broad Street may have been intentionally set. Hernando Fire rescue received a 911 call at 10:39 pm on June 21, 2020, reporting the fire.
Units from both Hernando County Fire Rescue and City of Brooksville Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene within 6 minutes per the media release. The front porch was fully consumed by the fire and was quickly spreading into the home. Responders were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the State Fire Marshall is investigating. At the scene of the fire, Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies were questioning an individual who was taken into custody.
The family of 2 adults and 3 children were put into contact with Red Cross for assistance. One firefighter involved in subduing the fire had to be transported to the hospital. The firefighter was determined to be in stable condition and was discharged.
